With a long holiday weekend upon us, it is always the perfect time for a quick getaway! We have a few travel tips for right before you leave on your trip!

Enjoy it, have fun, but always remember to be prepared and stay safe!

Here are our top travel tips!

1. Protect yourself

Travel Insurance is something we usually never bought as we never thought we’d need it. Luckily, this year we bought it before our trip to the Galapagos islands where I broke my leg. It really can make a huge difference in your travel plans if something goes wrong.

We really like World Nomads who cover anything from Trip Cancellation to Emergency Evacuations.

2. Arrive Early

Airports can be HECTIC during holiday weekends. Be sure to arrive to the airport early!

If you were lucky enough to have a credit card like the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card that can give you Global Entry or TSA PreCheck- we highly recommend this. (This would have had to be done prior to your trip though.)

3. Monitor flights

Keep a close eye on your flights the day or two leading up to it! You want to make sure you have no flight changes.

Also, a good note to remember is to check the weather! There could be weather delays that are out of the airline’s control.

4. Be Prepared!

Pack healthy snacks for your flight, make a checklist of important items you need such as chargers, passports, medicines and other items you may need!

My favorite healthy snack lately is little clementines! They are a good small snack and easy to bring with you. Even in a small purse! Also, some cashews, almonds or any other nut varieties are always a good choice!

5. Patience

Remember that there are a lot of people traveling this weekend just like you. Also, remember there are people who are working instead of enjoying time with their families and loved ones. If there is some type of delay, remember it is most likely not their fault.

Stay calm, cool and collected.

They are more likely to help if you are nice and helpful and not screaming in their faces.

6. Pack Light

A lot of times on vacation I have noticed I wear the same stuff over and over. Mainly for comfort. I usually like to wear dresses vs shorts/jeans but it really depends on the destination. Do some research to figure out what type of outfits you need. Make sure you pack what you normally wear and feel comfortable in.

Avoid packing clothes you don’t normally wear. I have done this many times and then I never wear those items!! Usually, there is a reason I don’t wear them and probably time to get rid of it.

7. Get a local Sight Seeing Pass!

We recently bought one in Niagara Falls for a trip. They usually include a bunch of activities you are most likely going to do anyway, and it will save you money from paying for each activity separately!

8. Bring your best Credit Card!

There are SO many great credit cards out there that can offer protections that you don’t have to pay for. Like Car Rental Insurance!

A few of our favorites for car rental insurance that you can find our top credit cards list are:
