Marriott has announced that they will be moving forward with the annual Award Changes in 2021. Typically, Marriott moves many hotels every year from a lower category up to a higher category. This year, the new Marriott Bonvoy 2021 Category Changes are actually a good thing!

What has Changed?

On March 3rd, 2021, there are a total of 201 level changes taking place within the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio. There are 51 Hotels that are moving from a lower category up to a higher category. Thankfully, the other 150 Hotels are moving from a higher category down to a lower category.

My Selfish Hope

It didn’t come true but I was hoping that the highly regarded Tambo Del Ink in Peru was going to come back down from a category six to a category five. Early in 2020, I booked a few nights here prior to the categories being raises but of course, I was unable to complete my stay due to the covid cancellations. Fingers crossed for 2022!

Basic Breakdown

I definitely like to see the Marriott Bonvoy program moving many of the hotels being changed this year to a lower category. Hopefully next year the Tambo Del Inka makes the list. Speaking of award chart changes, is anyone else nervous about the Hyatt changes which will be coming down the pike soon?
