Far far away, in a Citi Laboratory located at the top of a hill in a small remote town, Mr. Hyde has decided to take an ax to Citi’s Credit Card Benefits!

If you haven’t heard the bad news yet, beginning on September 22nd, 2019, Citi will be discontinuing the following:

  • Worldwide Car Rental Insurance
  • Trip Cancellation & Interruption Protection
  • Lost Baggage Protection
  • Citi Price Rewind
  • 90 Day Return Protection
  • Roadside Assistance Dispatch Service
  • Travel & Emergency Assistance

As you can see that is quite the hit to the Citi Cards benefits! With so many competitors offering many of those benefits in their no fee/premium cards it will be hard to justify using a Citi card as an everyday spending card.

However, on the flip side of Dr. Jekyll’s meltdown, Mr. Hyde has been working hard to provide a quality offer. Recently, Citi reintroduced their highest signup bonus for the Thank You Premier card. You can currently open the Citi Thank You Premier card and receive a signup offer for 60,000 Thank You Points after spending $4,000. These offers can change at any time so please check our top credit cards page for the current promotions!

What can you do with Thank You Points?!

60,000 Thank You points can be valued at a minimum of $300 if you cashed them out as statement credit or check.

Alternatively, you can purchase gift cards through the Thank You Portal for a variety of restaurants, department stores, cruise lines, hotels.com, & more for at least $600 (10,000 Points = $100).

Travel

For even greater value, you can choose to redeem Thank You Points through the Thank You Travel Center for 25% more value. Meaning that those 60,000 points can be worth 75,000 or $750 in the travel center to be used towards flights, hotels, rental cars, and various activities!

Finally, my favorite use of Thank You Points is to take advantage of one of the 16 transfer Partners!

Citi ThankYou Points can be transferred to the following partners:

  • Asia Miles
  • Avianca LifeMiles
  • Etihad Guest Miles
  • Eva Air Miles
  • Flying Blue
  • Garuda Indonesia Miles
  • JetBlue TrueBlue Points
  • JetPrivilege Miles
  • Malaysia Airlines Enrich Miles
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer Points
  • Qatar Privilege Club Miles
  • Shop Your Way Points (Sears/Kmart)
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles
  • Thai Royal Orchid Plus Miles
  • Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club Miles

To top it all off, the Citi Thank You Program even runs regular transfer bonuses of 25% or more to different partners throughout the year! As of today, there is a promotion with the Flying Blue Club for a 25% transfer bonus through July 20th, 2019.

Final Thoughts

All in all, despite Dr. Jekyll’s best efforts, I am still a fan of the Citi Thank You Program. Given that I can still use my Chase Sapphire cards to lock in most of the benefits that Citi is removing while maximizing the amazing transfers partners the Citi Thank You Cards will still find a spot on our Top Credit Cards Page.
