In a surprise move, it has been reported that Hilton Honors has temporarily removed the complimentary breakfast perk for elite members. It does seem like the general consensus is that the travel industry is scaling back on some of the fringe travel benefits we have all come to love over the years. Learn more about the recent changes to the complimentary Hilton Honors elite breakfast in this basic breakdown.

Refresher on Hilton Honors Elite Breakfast Perk

If you didn’t know, the Hilton Honors elite breakfast perk has been one of my favorite strategies for saving money while traveling. Both Gold and Diamond members were provided a complimentary breakfast. This perk is especially valuable when traveling in expensive markets where breakfast can cost upwards of $30 per person.

What has changed?

Starting in July 2021, the Hilton Honors elite breakfast perk will be replaced with a food & beverage credit. This temporary change will last through the remainder of 2021.

New Food & Beverage Credits – Updated 6/2021

It has been reported confirmed that the new breakfast credits will vary depending on the specific hotel within the Hilton portfolio. Here is the unofficial official new Hilton Food & Beverage credit breakdown:

  • $25 for luxury brands, including Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, and LXR
  • $12 for full-service and lifestyle brands ($15 for full-service brands in select markets)
  • $10 for Hilton Garden Inn properties

Are the new credits per room or per person?

The Hilton food and beverage credits will be good for up to two registered guests per room.

US Hilton Properties Only

This new change to remove the Hilton Honors elite complimentary breakfast only applies to US-based Hilton hotels. At this point in time, International Hilton Hotels will continue to provide the breakfast perk to Hilton Gold & Diamond members.

Diamond Members Receive Bonus Points – Updated 6/2021

Hilton Diamond members will receive both the food and beverage credits plus an additional 1,000 Hilton Honors Points at all Hilton brands except for Hilton Garden Inn Properties. Diamond members who stay at Hilton Garden Inn will receive the choice of food and beverage credits OR 750 Hilton Honors Points.

Food and Beverage Credit does not carry over – Updated 6/2021

The food and beverage credit must be used each day and does not carry over. Be sure to charge enough to your room to at least cover the credits so you don’t lose them!

Opt-in to the F&B Credits Via MyWay Benefits – Updated 6/2021

Starting July 1st, you’ll be able to login to your Hilton Honors Profile and select the Food & Beverage credits. This option can be found under the Hilton Honors MyWay Benefits section which currently shows a breakdown for each Hilton Hotel Brand.

Basic Breakdown

I definitely have come to love the free breakfast perk over the years, especially when I’m in full budget (basic) travel mode. It will be interesting to see how the food and beverage credits play out. Sometimes when we are traveling early morning excursions force us to miss the breakfast so in those situations the credits would be win for me. Finally, I’m glad to see that the benefit will remain for international hotels since I have a tentative trip to the Maldives planned for July 2021 where breakfast costs $35 per person before taxes!
