I received an email from Marriott’s CEO today with an update on Hotel Operation and the Bonvoy Program. It seems like one program after is taking steps to adjust to the times and provide it’s customers with positive news. So far, I’ve heard from Delta, United, Hyatt, and Hilton. I’m very Glad to see that Marriot is extending Elite Status & More in their latest update!

Bonvoy Elite Status

Members who have earned Elite Status in 2019 will now have it extended through February 2022. Personally, this is really great news as I made a dedicated push at the end of 2019 to earn Platinum Elite for 2020.

Points Expiration

All Marriott Bonvoy Points will not expire through February 2021. Starting then, points will only expire if the account has been inactive for 24 consecutive months. This is a nice update by Marriott that results in one less worry for customers who cannot utilize points during this trying time. Typically, there are a handful of strategies people can use to keep their Points & Miles from Expiring, like spending money on a Co-branded Credit Card.

Change & Cancellation Policy

Guests with existing reservations for any future arrival date can change or cancel without a charge up to 24 hours prior to arrival. This new policy extends through June 30, 2020. Any changes to existing reservations will be subject to availability and any rate differences. I’m really hoping that Marriott will match my existing reservation rate for a future stay at the same hotel. I booked a few nights in Peru prior to the Category Changes that took place a few months ago. Fingers crossed!

New reservations for any future arrival date, including reservations with pre-paid rates, between March 13 and June 30, 2020, Marriott will allow the reservation to be changed or cancelled at no charge up to 24 hours before the scheduled arrival date.

Community Updates

Marriott has two distinct programs that they are running to help those in need during this challenging time. The first, “Rooms for Responders” is offering complimentary rooms for First Responders in some of the areas most impacted by the pandemic. The second, “Community Caregiver Program” is offering significantly discounted rooms for First Responders and Healthcare Workers. The discounted rates are for hotels in close proximity to the hospitals they are working. Both of these programs are fantastic and nice to see in times like this.

Basic Breakdown

I’m glad to see Marriott stepping to the plate and offering some positive news. If you know of any healthcare workers or first responders that can take advantage of Marriott’s new Programs, please share this article with them!
